Educate your kids, don’t over-parent

The whole concept of education is to draw out someone who is not apparent. And parent, not teachers, have this pivotal role in any child’s life.

While “helicopter parenting” seems to be the more fashionable middle-class trend in the name of protecting kids from predators, online and offline, many parents are almost always setting up their children to fail in the real world.

Part of educating your kids might mean letting them figure out some things by themselves. It might mean asking them tough existential questions. Or taking away their mobile devices and sending them to the convenience store across the street.

The moral here is, if you’re a parent, it’s your job to draw out the man or woman from within your child or children.
