A thing about addiction

Addictions don’t happen as a result of the abundance of the thing that becomes addictive, they happen because of the lack of a broad spectrum of alternative experiences.

This lack of alternative experiences, actual or perceived, is what pulls people into abusive relationships with substances, people and themselves.

So, you don’t just break an addiction by avoiding contact with the source of the addiction but by expanding your experiences of life to encapsulate its grander and more meaningful scope. And one way to do this, is to find a cause that you can invest yourself into.
